About the challenge
The London Marathon Walk takes place on Saturday 23 September 2017, and involves a gruelling 26-mile journey around the nation’s capital. Famous landmarks to be ticked off include St Paul’s Cathedral, Tower Bridge, The Shard, London Eye, Big Ben and, of course, Buckingham Palace. With an early registration of 7.00am, and an average completion time of 8-10 hours, this event is definitely not for the faint hearted!
People are coming from all corners of the UK and from all walks of life, some to complete the distance as a personal challenge and many more as a team fundraiser. The Alzheimer's Society, Breast Cancer Care, The Children's Society, The Donna Louise Trust – these are just some of the charities that stand to benefit from the months of tough training invested by these determined men and women.
So just how far is 26 miles? Well, if you climbed the Top 40 (yes, forty) tallest mountains in the British Isles, stacked one on top of the other, you would still need to complete 2 laps of a standard Olympic running track. And if the average man doubled up his recommended calorie intake for the day, he would still have to munch a two-finger KitKat to store enough energy to finish the marathon. Yes, it’s a long way!
About the charity
The Donna Louise Trust is a registered charity that supports children and young adults with life-limiting conditions, by providing in-house and outreach services across Staffordshire and Cheshire. Thanks to the wonderful fundraising efforts of the family of Donna Louise Hackney, a young local girl who sadly died from a life limiting condition, the Trentham based hospice first opened its doors in August 2003 and has continued to support local children and their families ever since.
From symptom management and hospital support to community visits and end of life care, the charity’s work is centred on the vision “To be the centre of excellence for children and young people's palliative care”. However the important work done by The Donna Louise Trust is only made possible through the generosity of others, and that’s where we come in …
The OSIM way
The OSIM logo portrays the vibrant glow of the individual, and this signifies an ongoing commitment to help people to look good on the outside and feel great on the inside. Our company realises such a goal should be within everyone’s reach, and that is why we are wholeheartedly backing Dominic and Teresa in their efforts to take on this challenge and raise money for The Donna Louise Trust.
Their training is already well under way – to receive updates on their training and fundraising activities, watch out for the next blog post – coming soon or check out our Facebook page!
About the Team
Teresa has been with OSIM for just over a year now and has transferred her diligent and meticulous work ethic into her training, ticking off the training schedule day by day and making sure that she is ready for the long, gruelling challenge in September. A keen walker who has also tried her hand at caving (google it, it’s not for the faint hearted!), and is always willing to find new and interesting ways to push herself to the limit.
Dominic is our Marketing Manager and is the sportiest member of the Head Office team, regularly playing squash with friends and colleagues. Hoping that youthful exuberance will triumph over training may not be the best idea, but he is willing to give it his all and do what he can for The Donna Louise Trust.
